Here’s an interesting short video of photojournalist and commercial photographer Lyle Owerko who collected boomboxes in NYC over the years which ultimately inspired a photography book. There’s something just plain beautiful about all the interesting visual bits that make up the face of classic boomboxes. Props to the original product and graphic designers who made these electronic faces possible.
I thought this site for BrandJordan was really nicely designed and executed. It’s an interview with Nike designer Tinker Hatfield and keeps you engaged with the typography, sound, and interactivity. If you could do a site experience like this in HTML5, I’d be floored.
Brian Gossett a.k.a since78 puts together some of the best mixes out there for your listening pleasure. I was invited to contribute a mix along with artwork. I’ve always been fascinated by space travel, so I put some tracks together to listen to as you conquer the universe in your own special way. Using the font Quicksand as a base, I created a custom type treatment set against photos I’ve shot previously.
My photography (taken on my New Zealand photo trip) was used on another mix titled “The Sun Rises.”

It’s been far too long since my last post. In the spirit of re-energizing myself with posting more often, I’ve come across one of my new favorite artists – Royal Bangs. Coming straight outta Knoxville Tennessee, you should definitely give these two tracks a listen if you haven’t already. I know, I’m behind the times. The album for these two tracks – Let It Beep – came out in 2009. So much energy in these two songs. Hope you enjoy.

After 5 1/2 months of waiting (since I bought my camera), Canon finally released the highly anticipated firmware update 2.0.3 giving Canon 5D Mark II users 24fps shooting along with a few other features today. In the true spirit of DIY, I did a little test shoot with a led flashlight and some ice and hot water on a plate in my sink using my Canon 100mm macro 2.8L IS lens. Ahhhh, 24fps….it was a long wait, but finally you’re here to stay.
I finally gave in and got the Canon 5D Mark II and love having a solid camera that shoots great video all in one. Stumbled across a koi pond this morning in Marina Del Rey and grabbed some initial test footage to share. Music: Nine Inch Nails: Ghosts I

I posted this image a while back on my Flickr. I took a photo at LAX airport of the classic Eames Airport Seating System that is used all over airports today and liked the idea of placing these beautiful seats in a clean open environment. Maybe the fact that I was listening to Fugazi alot at the time made me think of the title “Waiting Room.”
subprime from beeple on Vimeo.
Beeple..also known as Mike Winkelman created this 2 1/2 minute fantastic animation titled “Subprime” which was featured on Motionographer a little while back. I just get the warm fuzzies taking in all the animation details that make me want to scrub this frame by frame over and over. It’s got a great music track from Nobot. I wanted to test out how Vimeo embeds here on my blog as well and so far so good! Looks great in HD!
When I saw the 6 images featured in this month’s issue (#72) of Eye Magazine of a gorgeous shelving system on an eye-catching blue wall, I was immediately intrigued by it’s simplicity and beauty. I absolutely loved the color palette and overall presentation of these simple, yet beautifully functional shelves and its ever growing contents. The creative agency Airside (based in the UK) brought these lush visuals to life in a short animated film made for the 2009 relaunch of the Vitsoe website. Airside explains that the film ‘traces an individual’s life through their ever-growing collection of Vitsœ collection of shelving an the contents they hold.’ Needless to say, this may be the beginning of a relationship between my pocketbook and the Vitsœ shelving system hopefully at some point in the future.
Go watch the film here at Vitsœ’s website. It’s got a great soundtrack with the Dee Felice Trio’s Latin jazz recording of ‘Nightengale’, 1967.
